What to see
in Cala Gonone
The eastern coast of Sardinia stretches for kilometres alternating low golden coasts and inaccessible cliffs plunging into the turquoise sea. Mouflons, donkeys and boars are free to roam among the strawberry trees, holly oaks and oaks of the Supramonte, discretely overlooked by the golden eagles nesting on the highest peaks.
Cala Gonone is located at the centre of the Orosei Gulf, on a steep hill at the foothills of the Codula Manna extinct volcano that slopes down towards the gulf.
It is the perfect place to set off on the discovery of the numerous amazing bays such as Cala Ziu Martine, Cala Fuili, Cala Cartoe and Cala Luna, an amazing blue bay overlooked by steep moon-grey rocky cliffs.
Moving south, further inland, we have Baunei, a mountain village leading to one of the most beautiful Mediterranean seas. Here, you can see canyons such as Gorropu, karst valleys, steep limestone cliffs and Su Sterru, the famous Golgo chasm, a natural crevice that is almost 300 metres deep.
In the forest near the Golgo, get ready for challenging hikes to reach the amazing Cala Goloritzé, a rocky bay boasting a blinding turquoise colour, as well as other lesser-known bays along the Selvaggio Blu, one of the most demanding yet panoramic treks in Italy.
One of the most unique and famous experiences is the boat excursion departing from the Cala Gonone harbour to Capo Monte Santo.
A gentle southbound sailing trip with breaks on the beaches and dives into the most beautiful and authentic parts of the gulf, which can only be reached by sea, will allow you to discover the most authentic and famous sights on this stretch of the coast. The Piscine di Venere or Cala Goloritzé, and the beaches of Cala Mariolu, Cala Luna, Cala dei Gabbiani and the Grotte del Bue Marino are just some of the many natural marvels you can visit.
So much beauty, a characteristic of the territory, where the crystal-clear waters reflect the karst cliffs plunging into the sea along the entire coast with glimpses of small caves, inlets, small bays and enchanting beaches.
Daily excursions on different types of boats: motor boats, rubber dinghies with pilot, small yachts, boats and rubber dinghies with no pilot.
Lovers of outdoor activities are truly spoilt for choice! Kayaking and canoeing (sea or lake), diving, snorkelling, trekking, hiking, climbing, paragliding, guided tours and much more.
